My favorite memory of Emily is when I'd joined her, aunt Deborah, uncle Dale & little cousin Danny on summer vacation across part of the U.S., and Emily and I were running around Washington DC, down the sidewalks and across the national lawn, having a great kid time. We got in a bit of trouble for not being able to sleep & maybe jumping on the hotel bed, but we were having too much fun. She taught me how to roll my tongue, play hand clapping games & a library of on-the-road sing alongs, as well as "my achy breaky heart".
A favorite memory of her being generous was when I visited over the summer in Darien, now teenagers, she introduced me to her friends at a church social, only a few at a time, understanding even at 13/14? how overwhelming a huge group of new people could be. We jumped on the trampoline and, I must say, she had some impressive air tricks.
As an adult, she officiated my mother's service, and while not a happy memory, stands out as an endearing one, showcasing the depth and strength of her character. Anyone who has Emily in their life is surely the better for it. ☀️
